Active Power Receives Major Cat UPS Order Totaling 4.75 Megawatts
AUSTIN, Texas -- Jan. 8, 2002 -- Active Power, Inc. (NASDAQ:ACPW) of Austin, TX announced today that it has received its largest single order to-date for Cat(R) UPS systems. The order consists of sixteen 300kVA units and one 900kVA unit with a total capacity of 4.75 megawatts. Caterpillar dealer, Darr Power Systems of Southlake, Texas originated the order for a large plastics product manufacturer who requires uninterrupted electric power to ensure around the clock plant operations. The units will be installed over the next few months. "Our customer chose Cat UPS because of the clear advantage this solution has over traditional battery-based UPS systems," said Mark Andresen, Sales Manager for Darr Power Systems. "The system is ideal for industrial customers because of its small footprint, temperature insensitivity and low operating costs. After analyzing a range of product solutions and completing a series of stringent reviews, the customer concluded that Cat UPS provides the high quality power required for their sensitive control and drive systems."
Cat UPS features advanced power conditioning and flywheel energy storage that provides state-of-the-art electric power conditioning including voltage regulation and harmonics cancellation. When integrated with a Cat standby generator, the Cat UPS creates a complete continuous power system, which protects against extended power outages and rolling blackouts. These power disturbances and outages cost US industry more than $119 billion per year, according to a recent Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) study.
"Plant uptime and optimal productivity are essential for all process manufacturing operations," said Joe Pinkerton, Chairman and CEO of Active Power, Inc. "The Cat UPS can protect against even the slightest power disturbance that can halt production and affect product quality. This order further validates the power quality market's increasing acceptance of our technology in a wide range of industrial applications."
