LDV, a European van specialist, recently announced that it will launch an electric vehicle (EV) trial in London this month. The company is a part of a working group established to investigate the viability of EV technology and its effectiveness in the automotive marketplace.

Under the EV trial, LDV's Convoy van will be tested by the company's longstanding customer, the Royal Mail. The program will last six months and will feature two LDV Convoy vans, which will be tested in Winchmore Hill, North London and Grays, Essex. The trial will assess the vans in typical operating duty cycles.

"LDV has already proved its commitment to the alternative fuel arena with the launch of its [liquefied petroleum gas] range earlier this year," said LDV sales executive director Tony Lewis. "The [EV] trial is the next stage in this strategy."

LDV said this year's International British Motor Show will provide a platform to demonstrate an "already flourishing business." LDV is a specialist van maker that produces a wide range of panel vans and their derivatives in Europe as well as automotive pressings.
