Owners of hybrid vehicles now get an added benefit to their already fuel efficient cars: free parking at meters throughout San Antonio.

The program combines transportation incentives with environmental awareness. San Antonio joins several other cities that have offered similar plans.

With gas prices continuing to climb, hybrid owners could save up to $600 a year, according to City Councilman Roland Gutierrez, who spearheaded the measure.
