People love bikes, and the battery-powered model devised by Ian de Vries makes cycling as easy as it gets.

Delegates attending the 25th Southern African Transport Conference being held at the CSIR were queueing during a lunch break to go for "eRides". Even the slightly sceptical and overweight eventually gave in to the tempting two-wheeler.

Sisco Sehlapelo, of Limpopo, was so impressed by the Adequate Energy Bike that he decided to order one for himself and use it to get to work.

The mountain-style bike weighs 22.6kg, consisting of an all alloy frame, alloy wheels and a Shimano 6-speed gear system. It utilizes NiMH battery positioned behind the frame.
