BROOKSVILLE -- Hernando County's plan to buy its first hybrid car wheezed its way to a standstill Tuesday.

Department of Public Works Director Charles Mixson met with county purchasing officials yesterday and decided to hold off buying the county's first hybrid car.

"We're looking at other alternatives," Mixson said. "For now, we're postponing bringing this to the board of county commissioners while we do some more evaluations. We need to find something with better gas mileage."
