IT'S PERSONAL: The Light Turns On
I am sure you’ve had that joyous sensation of suddenly experiencing an insight into a new way of seeing the world, solving a problem, creating a new opportunity.
Lately I’ve had two of them, luckily. The first was while attending the INTERSECT business start-up conference here in Omaha a few weeks back. A single comment by a gentlemen seated at the luncheon table next to me triggered just the right set of neurons and instantly I saw a new opportunity unfold for my ePEDALER spin-off. His off-handed remark about one of his customers being a cruise line, ignited a still-cascading series of insights that is reshaping my business model in a very exciting way.
The second ‘light bulb’ event happened just as I was climbing into bed this past week. I have just finished Bill McDonough and Michael Braungart’s new book, “THE UPCYCLE - Beyond Sustainability - Designing for Abundance,” which argues that the world has all we need to sustain us, we just need to use it properly, upcycle it, if you will. Then, by way of sheer serendipity, I came across an article in the Guardian, a British newspaper, about Coca Cola and growing public criticism of its role in the epidemic of obesity worldwide. Suddenly, I saw a way to bring together ePEDALER, upcycling and Coca Cola. Now I just need a way to pitch the idea of management in Atlanta. Any suggestions?
