FAST CHARGING CALIFORNIA

Remember the power generation scandal that brought down Enron more than a decade ago? Well, they weren’t the only ‘smartest guys in the room.’ Turns out a little company called Dynergy - in partnership with Princeton, NJ-based NRG - was pulling the same scam, artificially hiking electricity prices. When NRG fully acquired Dynergy in 2006, they also assumed full responsibility for legal claims against it, one of them being the State of California.

This week, the two parties settled for for $120 million, to be paid over the next four years. At least $100 million of the settlement will be used to pay for the installation of 200 DC fast charge stations and as many as 10,000 AC Level 2 units at 1,000 locations in the San Francisco Bay Area, the San Joaquin Valley, the Los Angeles basin and San DiegoCounty, according to Governor Jerry Brown. NRG is the parent behind the evGo charging network in Texas. This deal now gives them a significant beachhead in the state.
