    With millions of Americans unemployed or under-employed, jobs are a major campaign issue in the 2012 U.S. Presidential election. While it’s been estimated that somewhere around 3 million U.S. workers have found employment since the depths of the recession in early 2009, the rate of unemployment is still double that, on a national average, of what it was in 2007.

    To at least demonstrate that his Administration is trying to do something about not only getting more people back to work, but to help guide the nation’s talent and resources towards “21st Century” jobs, President Obama appointed General Electric Chairman and CEO Jeffry Immelt to chair the President’s Council of Jobs and Competitiveness.

    After holding some 19 Jobs Council Listening and Action Sessions across the country in 2011, the Council issued a 72-page report on their findings and recommendations; and electric car technology plays a small, but vital role in that initiative.
