Gollum's New 'Precious'
By EV World
I apologize dear reader/listener, but I couldn't resist putting this MP3 file on the web site. It really has absolutely nothing to do with electric-drive technology or the environment or most of the issues on which we focus, but it was so darn funny I just knew you'd enjoy hearing it. Yet in an obtuse kind of way, it has everything to do with our EV World as you'll discover when you listen to it.
First let me set the stage. Mike Malloy is one of the leading lights of a small, oppressed minority: namely 'liberal' radio talk show hosts. Mike is perhaps the most "over-the-top" of the group and isn't afraid to express his disdain for both the Republican and Democratic parties, though he reserves most of his vitriol for the Bush Administration. His show is only carried on a handful of stations and many listeners rely on the Internet to hear him. Sadly, he and his colleagues are slated to leave the air in the next few weeks as the UAW closes down its IE America Radio network.
Five nights a week he takes calls from left-leaning listeners and potshots at the "powers-that-be." But its not every night that the outspoken and often outraged Malloy is brought to tears of laughter as he takes an unexpected call from someone claiming to be Smeagol-Gollum. The demented Hobbit was the guardian of the "Ring" for centuries as it slowly twisted his mind, body and soul. In the Tolkien books and "Lord of the Rings" movie trilogy, the bifurcated Gollum acts as the guide for the movie's two heros.
I won't give away the gist of the call, but it appears "Gollum" has set his sights on a new "ring," a new "my precious."
