AMP Motor Works video of first test drives of company's converted electric Saturn Sky

When EV World interviewed Jack Kuntz for our AMP Motor Work's Secret Sauce article, the company was only just then starting the process of converting the attractive Saturn Sky sports car to electric drive.
Now they've got their first development car on the road and sharing the video of it on YouTube. According to their web site, the company is will convert customer's cars for $25,000 (plus applicable taxes), which as these things go, is pretty reasonable. The buyer provides the car and an intitial $10,000 downpayment. The company claims up to 150 miles per charge and warranties the battery pack for 3 years or 36,000 miles.
Beyond converting the initial 300 Saturn Skies, AMP Motor Works is considering "a 4-door sedan or mini-SUV."
Why don't they do the Saturn Ion and save everyone $20 K and have more room and funtion.

A new Saturn Sky retails for about $30,000, so we are talking here about at least a $55,000 electric sports car.
I would have to say that price is a bit out of the range of most of us. Do we really need another very high priced electric sports car?

Some excellent points on the previous posts. How about a Pontiac Solstice??
And to think they are using off the shelf components and likely STILL making a profit on these conversions. I sure hope they are sucessful.

Sounds like they are hitting the same range/price point as the Hybrid Technologies conversions (Mini Cooper, PT Cuiser). Hybrid also has a Yaris for about $39k, and a Smart car ($?). I drove most of these at their factory open house in Mooresville NC, 4/15/08. Very nice, professional products; don't know what production volume they are capable of.

I've seen some complaints on EV World about their responsiveness to web inquiries. Don't know why that's the case. They do seem always to answer the phone.

I'm trying to figure out why it's mandatory that an ev either be two seats or tiny or have a ugly and or weird body style.
The first company to offer large volumes of "normal looking sedans or SUT's will be filthy (er..clean) rich.I don't understand the disconnect.Phoenix Motorcars, the nearest to a non vaporware ev sedan maker hasn't even the care to keep an updated useful website, same for Miles.I appreciate all the advances, breakthroughs and milestones but bottom line, where is the ev sedan?

I just can't get excited about spending $25K to reduce a car's range to 150 miles.
At $3.75/gallon, $25k buys 6666 gallons of gas. At 25mpg that's good for over 166K miles.
Spend $25K, void the factory warranty and get a 3 year 36,000 mile warranty? What a deal.

Excellent, I love it! i bet that in the next five years, there will be multiple EV-conversion companies that will pop up. this would be one of the major tips to save gas,,and to save mother nature..

HEllo,
Looks great. What's the turn around time for conversion. If they are looking to do a mini-SUV. Why dont they invest into
acpropulsion.com with their Scion?

So your saying that the world would be a better and cleaner place if we were to drop $55k on something we can get for nearly half the price. Check out Aptera, they have two vehicles (all electric and hybrid) that are both three seaters and fall in the $27k to $30k range. I bet the 120 mile range of the Aptera electric is probably greater than what that Saturn can get.
