City El electric car
City El electric car is designed to fix the niche between bicycles and motor scooters and larger passenger cars. It carries one person, which is typically how many people ride in a car, at a speed of 25-30 mph for 30 miles or so, making it suitable for commuting in urban or small town environs.

City El: One-Seat Simplicity

Nikki Bloomfield is an accomplished musician from Bristol, England who has converted her 1965 Morris Minor to electric drive. She also owns perhaps one of the more imminently practical, human-scale electric vehicles built: the City El.

She is clearly a fan of electric cars and in the video below shared her impressions of the City El, which is designed to transport a single person on clean, electric power.

The 3-wheeled City El was originally developed in Denmark, but is currently manufactured in Germany; and perhaps no more than 50 are operating in the United States. It has a range of 25-30 miles and a top speed -- on level ground -- of about 30 miles per hour. It can be charged with a 120-volt North American outlet. The German manufacturer estimates that it can cost from 40 cents to 1,20 Euros ($0.65-1.60) to travel 100 km (62mi).

EV World invites its readers to share their videos of their electric vehicles, including bicycles, scooters and even farm tractors.

These are similar to the Twike http://www.twike.co.uk/Start.html which is a 2 seater and about twice the cost. These are very efficient and perfect for 1 person commuting. Maybe soon we'll have more light efficient choice here in the USA.

It mentions there are 50 in the US, I wonder where and how they are doing ?

I have one in Santa Cruz, CA., and know of several others in CA. Mine is upgraded to 48V. Very pleasing vehicle; but it is the older '94 City-el (Denmark). Nothing has gone wrong yet, but I imagine getting parts from the current German business will be a nightmare! Great to see this article!
